As good as he1 is, it's not just the end all be all of audio. Likely selling to downsize or maybe upgrade a different part of the chain.

Yup, and generally speaking the same goes for all of the other high premium offerings. As great as they may be, they still represent a unique flavor rather than a epitome of a standard of sound. Including the HE-90, SGL Sr., Aperio (from what I understand it to be), R10 etc. here.

My assessment also.

The HE1 has the most natural sounding instruments and incredible bass for an estat but you will find headphones with a bigger soundstage, more detail, more slam etc.
